Koolulam is a phenomenon. If you haven’t heard of it, let me share what I know. It has been described as a mass global singing sensation that has raised the voices of hundreds of thousands worldwide. I’d say it’s more than that: it’s a living example of the warmth and harmony that all of us should aspire to in our lives. It’s a breathtaking, unified performance in which the audience is the star, and we can’t wait to share with you the newest edition of it, Carolmania! on November 14.
The project began when its creators set out to bring together unlikely partners in a shared act of creation. As their website explains: Koolulam has the remarkable ability to unite voices from different backgrounds around a shared purpose and creative expression. When they say, “different backgrounds,” they mean across ethnicities, beliefs, and religions.
Here’s how it works: they gather thousands of people in a venue. The audience is divided into sections, each learning a different musical part. Then, when everyone sings together, something extraordinary happens – that “breathtaking, unified performance” that I mentioned in the first paragraph. It’s absolutely amazing.
Back in March, an email crossed my desk with a new pitch from the producers. It was a twist on the original idea:
“What if we take Koolulam and bring to it the holiday spirit of giving?”
That was the vision.
As you know, I’m a big supporter of culture and a champion of new entertainment experiences. In my first conversations with the producer, two things stood out. First, this was a brand-new endeavor in search of a home to bring the dream to life, with just a short rehearsal period before premiering. Second, the producers themselves have a home right here in Sandy Springs.
And so, Carolmania! found its launching pad.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for the City of Sandy Springs. We are excited to help give birth to not just a production of music and holiday cheer, but a spirit of community, harmony, and peace.
I invite you to be part of this one-of-a-kind event. Get inspired from videos on our website. Lend your voice. Lift your spirit. Share your love.
