Big Stages, Small Moments: Why I Love What I Do
by Bill Haggett, Sandy Springs PAC Executive Director
There’s a special kind of rush that comes with announcing a headliner like Jessica Vosk or watching a sold-out crowd rise to their feet during the encore of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's concert of the film music of John Williams. Curating a season packed with unforgettable performances is a thrill — and yes, when it works, the applause isn’t just onstage. It’s in the smiles, the thank-you notes, and the buzz that echoes long after the curtain falls. Those moments are electric.
But here’s the truth: the joy of this work isn’t only in the big, spotlight-filled nights.
Some of my favorite projects have been the small, homegrown events. The ones that turn a town square into a backyard gathering spot like our Thursday night Sundown Social on our City Green, where neighbors pull up lawn chairs and discover something magical under the stars. Or the nights when we flip the script inside the theater — transforming it into an intimate cabaret or a comedy club for an evening, and suddenly the space feels like a whole new place. This is what you will see in our upcoming Funny Fridays series!
These kinds of experiences are just as rewarding — maybe even more so — because they feel like us. They speak to the character of the community, the creativity that lives right here, and the joy of making something unique together.
So, this is your invitation. Come experience the season the way we do — not just as a series of events, but as a collection of shared moments, surprises, and celebrations. Whether it’s a world-famous name on the marquee or a pop-up event that could only happen here, I hope you’ll revel in every bit of it.
Because in the end, this job isn’t just about bringing people to the arts — it’s about bringing people together.
