Rossini's spectacular overture to Semiramide opens the concert, and continues with Brahms' famous Hungarian Dances, Lizst's Les Preludes, Ponchielli's delicate Dance of the Hours and Korngold's Straussiana. Since it wouldn't be a New Year's Eve concert without some Strauss favorites, the orchestra also plays his Thunder and Lightning Polka and On the Beautiful Blue Danube.
